Endo the Blind, a 22-year-old Appaloosa gelding from Corvallis, Oregon, has recently set three Guinness World Records. He jumped the highest a horse has ever jumped on its own, achieved the most flying changes in one minute, and completed weaving five poles in the shortest time. Endo’s owner, Morgan Wagner, and her beloved horse have been inseparable since she was 13, teaching each other everything they know about riding horses.

Endo’s strength of character shone even as a foal, displaying charisma and prancing around the other horses, according to Wagner. Endo was soon diagnosed with equine recurrent uveitis. It’s also known as moon blindness, causing repeated inflammation of the middle layer of the eye and ultimately leading to blindness. Wagner sought help from a vet. Together they tried to make Endo’s life more comfortable, with prescription ointment and cleaning up the dust around him. However, eventually, both of Endo’s eyes had to be removed.

Morgan’s fear that Endo would struggle with blindness was unfounded. He became more confident and fearless, even competing in a discipline that required upper-level riding and obstacle work, becoming a national champion at the highest level. Wagner attributes this to Endo’s amazing tricks and sweet personality, which won the hearts of everyone he met.
