On Christmas Eve, the Buffalo, New York area experienced a historic blizzard that left many stranded and helpless. But in the midst of the chaos, a heartwarming story of survival emerged. Sha’Kyra Aughtry, a 35-year-old woman, heard a man yelling for help and took it upon herself to save his life.

Aughtry’s boyfriend, Trent Alls, helped carry Joseph White, a 64-year-old man with autism, into their home. White was in a dire condition, with his clothes frozen to his body and having difficulty communicating with Aughtry. With the help of her cousin, a nurse practitioner, Aughtry was able to safely warm White up using a hair dryer and space heater.

Despite the long wait for emergency services, which never arrived, Aughtry continued to care for White. She brushed his teeth, combed his hair, and even made him pancakes on Christmas morning. She also fed him pot roast and carrots for Christmas dinner. Aughtry went above and beyond, treating White like family and giving him the care and attention he needed.
Aughtry’s compassion and selflessness are inspiring. She did not hesitate to help a complete stranger in need, and her kindness and generosity did not end when White was taken to the hospital. Aughtry set up a GoFundMe to help with White’s recovery and urged others to show kindness to one another.
