Tamara Palmer of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is grateful to be alive today. She credits two police officers for saving her life. What started as a routine traffic stop for suspected drunk driving turned out to be a blessing in disguise. As the officers discovered that Palmer had a massive brain tumor that required immediate surgery.
According to reports, on December 2, 2022, police officers in Mount Pleasant were called to respond to a driver who was potentially driving under the influence. The officers observed the driver striking the curb multiple times and failing to maintain its lane. So they initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Palmer.
During the traffic stop, the officers determined that Palmer wasn’t impaired due to drugs or alcohol, but something wasn’t right. Palmer told them she had a bad headache and lost her vision for a few seconds, which made the officers realize that something medically was not right with her.

The officers requested an ambulance, and Palmer was taken to a hospital where an MRI revealed that she had a brain tumor. Doctors suggested that the tumor could have been growing for 35 years. Palmer was immediately rushed into surgery. After an eight-hour procedure and two days of recovery in the hospital, she was allowed to go home.
“I didn’t have any complications. I feel like I didn’t have any surgery at all,” Palmer said.
Since undergoing brain surgery, Palmer has returned to work. Also she recently stopped by the police department to thank the officers who saved her life. “Dec. 2, it’s my second birthday because [of these] police officers. They [gave] me the best birthday gift I could ask for — life,” Palmer said.
