Officer escorts 8-year-old girl to school dance in heartwarming gesture after her father’s passing

A school dance is a memorable occasion for every child, especially a father-daughter dance. But what happens when a little girl loses her dad and can’t attend the dance? That’s where Officer Nick Harvey, a school resource officer at Van Buren District primary school in Arkansas, stepped in to make a difference.

When Officer Harvey learned that Avey Cox, a second-grader, wouldn’t be able to attend the dance because of her father’s passing, he wanted to help. He and the other resource officers promised to take any youngsters who didn’t have fathers to the event. In his case, he stepped up for Avey, an 8-year-old.

Officer Harvey first met with Avey’s mother and received her consent. Avey was thrilled at the opportunity to attend the dance, and Officer Harvey even coordinated his clothing with Avey’s dress. On the big day, he drove his police car to pick up Avey and escorted her to the dance.

Although Officer Harvey admits he’s not a great dancer, he did his best to ensure Avey had a memorable night.Avey was thrilled to attend her first dance and spend time with her friends, and Officer Harvey was grateful to be able to assist her and others.

In a Facebook post, Officer Harvey expressed his gratitude for the experience. “I had the distinct distinction of accompanying Avey, this remarkable and gorgeous little girl, to the Daddy-Daughter Dance,” he wrote. “I enjoy my profession for a variety of reasons. But for reasons like this, my job is the finest employment for me.”
