Evgeny Anisimov’s life was forever changed when he learned that his newborn son, Mishka, had Down Syndrome. His initial reaction was one of fear and uncertainty, but he quickly transformed his sadness into determination.
#
He was determined to care for his child, no matter how challenging it may be. Unfortunately, his wife did not share the same sentiment and desired to place Mishka in foster care. Evgeny and his wife had a “good and trusting” relationship, but her decision to abandon their child eventually drove them apart.
#
Evgeny has since raised Mishka on his own. Although each chore is simple, the single father admits that doing it every day is difficult. However, he is fortunate that his mother assists him so that he can spend some time alone.
#
Evgeny also plans a variety of activities for Misha to help him grow physically and mentally. Since he was five months old, the child has attended weekly swimming lessons. In addition, he has begun speech therapy. Evgeny is grateful that many people have contributed to his ability to pay for these expensive activities.
#
Evgeny’s goal is to disseminate knowledge about Down Syndrome and help families who are experiencing the same difficulties as parents of special needs children. He wants to raise awareness and inspire others with his example.
#
He has corresponded with families who are far away and hopes that those who have difficulties now, as he once did, will read about him and find hope. “Have no fear! Everything will be fine!” he shares.

Raising a baby with Down Syndrome can be challenging, but it is also a rewarding experience. Children with Down Syndrome can live and work independently, and they often have bright and loving personalities. Evgeny’s determination to care for his child, despite the challenges, is a testament to the love and dedication of all parents of children with special needs.
