Wildlife Photographer Builds A Special Bond With A Group Of Adorable Meerkats

Have you ever seen a meerkat and felt an immediate urge to protect them? The baby schema, also known as the “cute response” or neoteny, is what causes this reaction in humans. Our brains are wired to favor creatures that have youth-like features such as large eyes, broad foreheads, and smooth curves because they resemble a human newborn and elicit social interaction and even a sense of parental care.

“When you’re a wildlife photographer, the idea is to blend in with your environment so that you don’t scare off the animals,” Kleer said. And it seems he has achieved just that. In a viral video, Kleer is seen lying on the ground with a meerkat perched on his head, surrounded by a group of these fluffy creatures.

Instead of being scared of the human intruder, the meerkats interact with Kleer as if he were part of the natural surroundings, and they appear to be at peace.

These meerkats seem to have no fear of humans, and Kleer’s presence did not disturb them in any way. Instead, they used him as a high point from which to observe their surroundings more closely. This is not the first time Kleer has encountered native South African meerkats, and it’s evident that he has a deep love and appreciation for these creatures.
