Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, responsible for pollinating a significant portion of the food we eat. Without bees, our food sources would be drastically reduced, leading to widespread consequences for both humans and the environment.

Unfortunately, bees in Brazil are facing a devastating loss due to the use of pesticides containing banned substances like neonicotinoids and fipronil.

The use of neonicotinoids and fipronil in particular has been linked to the decline of bee populations around the world. These substances have been banned in Europe due to their harmful effects on bees and other pollinators, yet they are still used in other parts of the world, including Brazil.

It’s a tragic example of how humans, in the pursuit of financial gain, can destroy their own home. Albert Einstein famously said, “If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” While this statement may be hyperbolic, it highlights the important role that bees play in our ecosystem and the consequences of their loss.

In the state of Rio Grande do Sul alone, 400 million bees have been found dead. This is a heartbreaking loss that highlights the dangers of pesticides and the impact they can have on the environment. Pesticides are used to kill pests, but they can also have unintended consequences, such as killing off beneficial species like bees.

The Brazilian government has approved a large number of pesticides this year, and the results have been devastating for the bee population. It’s imperative that we take action to protect these important species and find alternative methods for pest control that don’t have such negative impacts on the environment.
