Branigan’s mother gave Tattoo his name, “Tattoo,” symbolizing a rhythmic tapping or drumming, because the sight of him made Branigan’s heart “drum” with joy. As Branigan held the baby horse in her lap for the first time, she couldn’t help but cry. “I was head-over-heels in love right away,” she says, her voice filled with emotion.
The bond between Branigan and Tattoo grew stronger each day. They became inseparable, often seen cuddling and enjoying each other’s company. Branigan fondly remembers tattooing Tattoo when he was just three weeks old, marking a special moment in their journey together.
A Heart-Wrenching Farewell
But life is full of surprises, and after six months together, Branigan faced an emotional reality. Tattoo had been sold. The news left Branigan with a feeling of devastation. “I only had two months left with my best friend,” she recalls, overwhelmed by sadness.
In an unexpected twist, Branigan received a Christmas gift that would change everything: a portrait of Tattoo. Though the sight of the “Transfer of Ownership” label brought tears to her eyes, the gift was a reminder of her connection with Tattoo. What made the day even more special was that Branigan’s parents gave her a tattoo, symbolizing the love and bond she shared with her horse.
